1st June 2002 - 2PAC on UK Play last night

At 11.10pm on channel 217 (sky digital) UK PLAY they played a half hour documentary about the life of 2pac. In my opinion the program was alright but didn't really seem to know what to label 2pac, first they called him romantic, then confused, then just didn't really tell the full story. It seemed to focus more on his earlier career then about his death and the events that lead up to it.

1st June 2002 - Staff

29th May 2002 - 2PAC Best/Favorite Rapper in Ebony Poll

In the June 2002 issue of Ebony, a poll was taken on several topics. Tupac took the #1 spot in FAVORITE RAP/HIP-HOP ACT and BEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME. It's not news to me, and it's probably not news to you, but it's always nice to see that there is enough appreciation for his incomparable talent, to continually win top honors in polls like these. Leave it to some biased magazine editors, and they might pick someone else, but leave it to the "people," and Tupac wins every time. I wonder why? Simply cause he's the best there's ever been, and probably the best there will ever be. Some will argue, but it doesn't change the fact that........Tupac is #1.

FAVORITE MALE RAP/HIP-HOP ACT
23.9% **Tupac Shakur**
22.0% LL Cool J
13.2% Sean Combs
8.9% Jay-Z
8.8% Snoop Dog

BEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME
27.3% **Tupac Shakur**
19.6% Will Smith
18.2% LL Cool J
11.2% Biggie
6.7% Ice Cube

6th May 2002 - Tupac in Cuba???

I found this story after reading about it on a message board. I think that this report my be a hoax but i thought i might as well put it up for you to make up you r own mind

CUBA (CNN) -- Cuban federal officials reported that rapper Tupac has been spotted in Cuba. He was seen with Cuba's President Fidel Castro during a delegation from the Cuban American National Foundation, an anti-Castro group. They met Thursday in Atlanta with former President Jimmy Carter to discuss his trip to Cuba later this month. Tupac has had an unique life, and therefore such statements by cuban officials are nothing too shocking for the FBI. In April 1995 Tupac married Keisha Morris in a ceremony at the clinton correctional facility. In prison Tupac said in a Vibe interview that The Notorious B.I.G, Puffy Combs and Andre Harrell had set him up in the New York shooting. While in prison Tupac planned the group the Outlaw Immortalz. Tupac was bailed out of prison by Suge Knight for $1 million. Tupac signed a handwritten contact to join Death Row and to make 3 albums. On January 1st California love had its world premiere on MTV. California love with Dr Dre was Tupac's first number 1 single. Tupac changed his name to Makaveli after Italian Niccolo Machiavelli. Tupac's new group the Outlawz were named after enemies of the USA. Members are, Kastro, Mussolini, Edi, Kadafi, Komani, Fatal Hussein and Napoleon. Later members were Young Noble, Storm and Gonzoe. They appeared on some of the songs on Tupacs next album "The Don Killuminati : The 7 Day Theory". The album was released after Tupac's fake death. It had the hit singles "To Live & Die In L.A" , "Toss It Up" and "Hail Mary". Tupac was shot in Las Vegas on Sept 7th 1996 after watching a Mike Tyson fight. Tupac "died" on Friday September 13th 1996 at 4:03pm. After Tupac was considered dead, two films were released "Gridlock`d" and Gang Related". A double Tupac album was released in 1997 called "RU Still down? (Remember me)." In 1998 Tupac's "Greatest Hits" was released containing 4 unreleased songs. In 1999 a Tupac poetry book was released containing 72 poems. A Tupac and Outlawz album was released in December 1999 called "Still I Rise." Tupac is considered an illegal alien in Cuba, but Castro says he is fine to have such an icon as their nation's resident.

source: hitemup.com

Troy Hudson of the Orlando Magic stated that Tupac was his favorite rapper. Apparently he has a CD coming out soon, and his style is supposedly similar to Tupac's. Here's what he had to say:

Hudson: My favorite artist is the late Tupac Shakur. His style of writing is similar to mine. He raps directly from the heart about things that he went through in life, things that go on in everyday situations. I got started by basically just listening to rap. All my friends used to do it and I found it interesting. Once I started doing it for fun, it became like, hey, I want to do this for a living.

23th March 2002 - Mural

This is an email i got sent to me from richiequick@hotmail.com

Yo, I was hoping that maybe you wouldn't mind putting my story up on your website as news.  My name is Richard Strey, I live in Woodbury New Jersey, a metropolis of Philly.
I started a mural in my school of Pac, Big, Eazy, and Big Pun.  After about 3 or 4 weeks, a "social worker", was outraged at the unfinished mural.  The school haulted me from painting the mural until further notice.  This news blew up BIG!  News reporters, radio stations, news papers, etc. were contacting me.  I am just trying to get my story to be heard by the fans.

here are some links that further elaborate on my story:

14th March 2002 - Info about the delay on new album

Source: madeniggaz.net

According to thawildnthawest.com:

One of the reason's the new 2pac album has been delayed has to do with the problems that Interscope Records & Jimmy Iovine are causing for the Shakur Estate. Interscope are seeking to take a large cut off each album sale & have refused to give the album any kind of release priority or promotion, which has forced the Estate to stall work on the album. The Estate have hinted that the current problems with Interscope would not be happening if Tom Whalley was still at Interscope Records, & that they feel Interscope are being greedy & acting unfairly trying to profit from what they see as little work or effort on their part while the Estate & Tha Row do all the hard work.

The Estate have thanked us (wildnthawest.com and other participants) for their effort in getting 2pac petition started and to get the new album extra promotion by Interscope/Universal Records, but they feel that such pleas even from fans have fallen on deaf ears at Interscope & they frankly do not care about the project or its success.

5th March 2002 - Tupac songbook being released

source: madeniggaz.net

Warner Brothers Publications is releasing a songbook called "The Tupac Shakur Collection" this spring. The 84 page glossy contains piano, vocal and chord arrangements for fifteen of the slain MC’s most popular songs, including “California Love,” “I Get Around” and “Dear Momma.” Product Manager, Janet Delissa, worked with Tupac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, and explained the company’s motivations. “It was created with the idea that the subscribers to his lyrics and poetry would buy this more than a musician,” she said. “But if somebody wanted the music for the purpose of the rhythms and down beats, the music is more of a guide than a verbatim recall. The focus was his content rather than the music. That was the focus taken by his mother and his organization.” This is the first time that Warner has come out with a publication of this nature and Delissa admits that a song book for an MC is “left of center.” But they are hoping to appeal to Tupac’s almost cult like following. Though a book of his lyrics may seem more logical she feels that this songbook will, “give the full authentic interpretation. The intent is that if they want to get the key it was performed in and accompanying patterns, they will buy our book.”

According to Delissa, The Tupac Shakur Collection is part of a greater push to reintroduce Tupac to a mainstream audience in time for an HBO special airing later this year.

source: madeniggaz.net

He also said that "Pac stood up for what he believed in, his people, the black race Pac was a born leader".

Source: hitemup.com

Thug Angel is a 90 minute film on the life of Tupac Shakur, directed by Peter Spirer (Rhyme & Reason) due for release April 2002.

The documentary has been put together by QD3 who did a lot of tracks with Pac such as "To Live & Die in LA" and "Lost Souls" and "Hellrazor." His sister Kidada was also engaged to Pac at the time of his passing. QD3 stated he got to know Tupac well "my family was real close to Pac and got to know him very well and we got to see the complete Pac, not just the Deathrow persona he took on for only 9months before his untimely death".

The film begins by filming Tupac at a very early age; it was originally an effort to do an autobiography while he was still alive. The film contains hours of never before seen footage of Tupac during all different times of his life. There's footage of him in Marin City while he was 17 from wilin' out at the gun range in Compton showing off his gun collection while doing the interview. It also contains very personal footage including studio sessions, freestyles and plenty of interviews.

QD3 referred to the film as the "second best thing to meeting Pac as it was produced by close friends of Pac such as myself QD3, Tracy Robinson and Leila Steinberg who Pac lived with for 4 years and who also managed him". It features Shock G, Mutulu Shakur, Suge, Snoop, Mopreme, Edi of the Outlawz, Mike Dyson, Quincy Jones, Rashida Jones, Treach, and many more ...

The film will contain 70 minutes of never before seen Tupac footage. It will also contain almost 2 hours of bonus footage on the DVD, including full length interviews with Pac and an interview with Mutulu Shakur from jail.

30th of January 2002 - Nas's Video Re-Enactments Of Shakur And Notorious B.I.G. Murders Explained

Some fans have been confused and unable to ascertain what Nas and video director Benny Boom were trying to accomplish by re-enacting the murders of the late Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. in Nas's latest video, 'Got Ur Self..." While Suge Knight has gone on record as saying he was fine with it, many feel that those close to the two deceased artists might not be comfortable with the re-creation of the painful events every time the video airs.

Benny Boom recently explained the 'Got Ur Self...",  "A partner of mine actually came up with the original idea of Nas being somebody in history," he explained. "We thought about him playing the part of Malcolm X and him playing the part of Martin Luther King, but we also said we didn't want to be too far removed from the kids that are around now and that it should really pack a punch."

Boom continued, "I kind of incorporated Tupac and Biggie, and it was appropriate to because of the climate of what Nas was going through, and also what the song was kinda talking about. I kinda wanted to give a dichotomy between the visual and the actual audio which you heard. So when I called him up, he, like, loved it from the moment he heard it, so it just went into motion from there."

30th of January 2002 - Tupac written on wall in Africa

Hitemup.com recently received this email

We got an email recently that I wanted to share. The email is from a man named Yves who moved from Africa to Canada in 1997. The email refered to Will Smith who was on Oprah a month ago talking about about the movie Ali and about filming the famous "Rumble in the Jungle." That fight scene was shot in Mozambique, although the actual fight was in Zaire. Will said that he was in a village over there with no clean water, or electricity, and that Tupac and Biggie were both written on a wall.

The email said that in Africa Tupac is the most loved rapper and they loved him for what he stood for and what he believed in; he was a young black man who wasn't afraid to speak and tell the truth. The email said that often in Africa Tupac is referred to as the Black Prince. In Kenya, where Yves lives they have what's called a Matatu, like a minibus, which is used for transport and plays loud music. One bus in Kenya was named Makaveli.

It's clear just how much reach Tupac had, and how he spoke for so many. R.I.P.
